Ernestine I. Jenkins-Burrell

WEEMS—Ernestine India Jenkins-Burrell of Weems died July 28, 2019, after a lengthy illness at Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital.

Ernestine was born on April 5, 1936, to the late John Jenkins and Virginia Fisher Jenkins in Weems.  She was educated at Mount Jackson Elementary School and A.T. Wright High School.

In the early 1960s, Ernestine moved to New Jersey and started working at “Charles of the Ritz.”

She returned to Lancaster County in the early 1970s and began studying the Bible with Gloria Russell. She was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on August 8, 1976.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Jenkins; brothers, Bernard Jenkins and Lee Jenkins; and granddaughter Antionette Barksdale.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Barksdale of Matawan, N.J.; son, Reginald Burrell of Weems; grandchildren, Brandon,, Xzavier and Yahmire; great-grandchildren, Brandon Jr. and Lauren London; brothers, Allen Henry Jenkins of New Jersey and Purcell Jenkins of Weems; sisters, Vera Waller and Marcella Tiggle, both of Weems, and Sadie Moore of Maryland.

A service was held September 14 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Heathsville.
