LANCASTER—The Lancaster planning commission on February 20 heard from a number of departments requesting a total of $11,220,251 for capital improvements in fiscal year 2021. This is a significant increase over the current capital budget of $521,840.
In a 7-0 vote, the commission set the proposed capital improvement plan for public hearing on March 19. Robert Smart, Glendon Pinn, Tara Booth, David Chupp, Thomas Richardson, Ty Brent and Steve Sorensen all supported the measure.
The largest individual request, $8.3 million from the broadband authority, represents a 25% matching fund for a $33.3 million USDA Rural Utilities Reconnect Grant. If awarded, the grant would supply high-speed fiber broadband to every home in the county.
