The Texacos were a men’s Fast Pitch Softball team sponsored by T. C. Treakle and John A. Christopher Texaco Oil Company of Irvington that was made up of local men and boys mostly from Lancaster and Northumberland counties.
After a very modest beginning in 1957, the team caught the attention of the national office of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) in Oklahoma City in 1963 that requested an interview, which resulted with a full page story in their newspaper “Balls & Strikes” with a circulation in all 50 states and 117 foreign countries. It put the Texacos on the map and right up there with the “big boys” of softball. They were off and running and there was no looking back.
