Irvington mayor vows to move forward with alternate truck route; clarifies tourism grant appropriation

IRVINGTON—Despite objections from Old Salem Road residents at September’s town council meeting, Mayor Albert “Tripp” Bugg said on October 8 the town will move forward with the “no thru trucks” restriction on Irvington streets as originally proposed.

Bugg said his office had received “some 65 letters and emails from Golden Eagle and Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury against the through truck restriction which delegates Old Salem Road as the alternate route.”

Bugg added that since town residents and council are “overwhelmingly in favor” of the measure and “VDOT asserts that Old Salem Road would be the most likely to be approved by…
