HEATHSVILLE—Nonprofit organizations in Northumberland whose work directly assists citizens impacted by the COVID-19 virus pandemic will soon have an opportunity to apply for a grant from the county.

Last Thursday, the Northumberland board of supervisors voted unanimously, 5-0, in favor of establishing a COVID-19 virus pandemic relief grant for nonprofits. Members Ronald Jett, Thomas Tomlin, James Brann, Jim Long and Richard Haynie voted in favor of the proposed grant program.

“This would be an opportunity for nonprofits to apply for up to $5,000 and the county, we discussed last month to put up $75,000 in CARES monies to do so,” said county administrator Luttrell Tadlock.

Applications by organizations responding directly to the virus pandemic will be prioritized to receive funding…
