A-Ibañez Art Museum celebrates opening of ‘Surreal Arizona’ gallery

KILMARNOCK—Saturated western skies on canvas and whimsical statues of cactus plants bring a piece of the Arizona desert to the Chesapeake Bay at the A-Ibanez Art Museum, 199 Whittaker Lane, Kilmarnock.

Artist Alvero Ibañez debuted his Arizona-inspired art collection April 24 and 25 at his home after curating over 50 paintings and several statues over the course of three years memorializing his time out west.

Ibañez, originally from Colombia, moved to the U.S. in 1981. Not long after his arrival to the states, he met his wife, Denise DeVries, at a Spanish poetry reading in Washington, D.C. They later relocated to the Northern Neck with their growing family and opened an art gallery on Main Street in Kilmarnock.
