Irvington council welcomes trick-or-treaters; to consider simplifying the CUP process

IRVINGTON—Trick-or-treaters will be allowed to spook their neighbors and collect candy in Irvington following a “porch light” policy on Halloween, October 31.

During the October 14 town council meeting, councilman Wayne Nunnally introduced a motion confirming the town will observe Halloween and encourage a “porch light” policy—homes with porch lights on are inviting trick-or-treaters to collect candy and those with no lights are asking for children and families to respectfully keep their distance. Councilman Dudley Patteson seconded the motion, which passed 5-0 with support also from Anthony Marchetti, Jackie Brown and Bonnie Schaschek. Chris Braly was not present. 

On behalf of Village Improvement Association (VIA), Julie Harris informed council the VIA will forgo a costume contest this year for COVID-19 safety measures. 

Additionally, Harris said the VIA voted in favor of reinstating the Turkey Trot. “COVID friendly” guidelines are in the works, she said.

Interim Mayor Frances Westbrook announced that, as of November, there will be a vacant seat on the town planning commission….
