Applications for Vineyard Grove STRs put on hold; planners recommend others

IRVINGTON—As more concerns regarding density arose in Irvington’s short-term rental (STR) debate December 6, regulations and requirements for who is granted a conditional use permit (CUP) appear to be affecting some neighborhoods more than others.

During a public hearing before the planning commission on several CUP applications for STRs, residents Judd Burke and John Greicko voiced opposition to more STRs coming to their Vineyard Grove neighborhood.

Following a reading of an application submitted by Neil Wert Jr. to establish an STR at his 67 Park Place property within Vineyard Grove, the commission heard the concerns of neighbors.

Burke said he is against the CUP due to the high volume of homes operating as an STR. Already 47% of the neighborhood is made up of STRs and it is completely changing the dynamic of the residential area, he said.

Burke asked that the town-wide stipulation limiting STRs to no more than 10% of the town’s tax map be applied to the Vineyard Grove….
