Christchurch sailors win school’s first girls state championship

The Christchurch School girls sailing team recently won the school’s first girls state championship in school history.

Maddie Janzen and Maria del Rosario De Tomas Perello won the 11th annual Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association Girls State Fleet Racing Championship at Youth Sailing Virginia in Hampton Roads. Through nine races, they built a 17-point lead against the field of 18 teams from nine other schools

Simone Moss and Alders Kulynych-Irvin placed seventh.

The girls now advance to the Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association Girls Championship May 6-7….
