Animal cruelty case continued

HEATHSVILLE—The trial of a woman accused of multiple misdemeanors for animal cruelty has been continued.

The defense attorney for Phyllis D. Swift of Burgess asked for a continuance in her case. The office of Northumberland County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jane Wrightston did not contest the request and the trial will now be heard in Northumberland General District Court at 11 a.m. October 16.

Swift was charged with 58 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty following the seizure of dogs at her Burgess home in March.

Swift was previously scheduled to appear in court on the charges July 17.
