Tropical Storm Ophelia comes to Ophelia

Tropical Storm Ophelia brought two days of wind, rain, high tides and some flooding to the lower Northern Neck September 22 and 23. The tide is rising here about 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnybank Ferry landing looking across the Little Wicomico River to Ophelia. Rainfall ranged from 2-4 inches in the area and a few minor power outages were reported. Anticipating an unpredictable storm, Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Friday declared a State of Emergency and issued a statewide warning for the potential of severe rainfall, flooding, wind damage, tornadoes and other storm-related impacts Friday through Sunday. While tides remained higher than normal, clouds with patches of rain lingered on Sunday as blue skies and sunshine peeked through. Photo by Robert Mason Jr.
