KILMARNOCK—Jennylou Schoelwer of Kilmarnock, formerly of Pennington, N.J., died of natural causes on August 16, 2023.
Jennylou was born August 5, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Oris E. and Margaret L. Hamilton. She attended local schools in Cincinnati, and completed two years of college at Wittenberg University, before leaving school to marry the love of her life, William A. Schoelwer. Together, they shared a 65-year marriage, until Mr. Schoelwer passed away in June of 2018.
Jennylou was a devoted mother and housewife, who raised three sons, including a special needs child, Robert. In the 1980s, after a 30-year interlude, she returned to college and completed her bachelor’s in history, graduating from the State University of New York at Albany.
Jennylou and her husband were avid travelers, mostly to Western Europe. She was also a sophisticated collector of antique dolls, a subject on which she wrote and lectured extensively.
She is survived by two sons, William F. Schoelwer (Susan) of Washington, D.C., and Michael H. Schoelwer (Lucia) of White Stone. A third son, Robert pre-deceased her. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held for her at Annunciation Roman Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., on November 18. Jennylou will be interred in Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Ohio, the final resting place for six generations of her family, including her husband William, and her son Robert.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Kilmarnock.
