Douglas F. LeGrand

SAN RAFAEL, CA—Douglas François LeGrand, 94, died in San Rafael, Calif., on November 29, 2023.

Douglas was born on May 25, 1929, and grew up in Northumberland County, after his adoption by Joseph and Estelle LeGrand (Thomas, later Lorraine).

His favorite pastime was telling stories of the characters and events of his past and he had a million of them. He also loved to joke and had a ready laugh that he used with gusto. He was always quick to offer a helping hand and was well known as the person to call if you needed assistance or a favor.

Douglas had a long, varied career that included serving in the army during the Korean War (stationed near the East German border), operating a tourist home and a house for Congressional pages on East Capitol Street, and starting a contracting business that specialized in the renovation of old homes in the District of Columbia.

Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen (Parasine); and will be remembered with love and laughter by his four children, Thomas (and his wife, Meredith), Cathleen, Jennifer (and her husband, Giovanni) and Heather (and her husband, Stewart); and two grandchildren, Luca and Eoin.

Those who wish to share condolences or stories about Douglas are invited to send a card or note c/o Thomas LeGrand, 3413 Holly Rd., Annandale, VA 22003. His family would love to hear your memories of him.
