The Tavern Spinners and Weavers Guild at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville recently gave a $300 donation to the art department at Northumberland Middle School.
Art teacher Heather Cockrell accepted the donation from guild president Jan Lodge. The money is earmarked for art supplies for her students.
“As textile artists ourselves, the Tavern Spinners and Weavers Guild is pleased to help support the arts for our local youth,” said Jan Lodge.
The guild is best known for its hand-woven kitchen towels, but also makes hand-woven table runners, baby blankets and other textiles, as well as hand-spun yarns. The wares are available for sale at the Tavern Gift Shoppe.
