Lancaster school bus drivers compete in skills competition

With obstacles like straight lines, parallel parking and offset alley, the Region III Bus Road-e-o Saturday, April 13, in Spotsylvania County put CDL bus driver skills to the test.

Lancaster County Public Schools (LCPS) had five—or nearly a third of its 16 drivers—volunteer to test their abilities during the more than three-hour event.

The “road-e-o” is held annually among Region III schools, which span from Stafford to Gloucester. The event was held in Gloucester County last year but Lancaster did not have any participants. Lancaster last participated before COVID-19, according to LCPS director of transportation and security CD Hathaway.

“This was a great event,” said Hathaway. “For me personally as the new director, I got to meet some key players in Region III and continue to build relationships with our bus drivers, who are the first and often last division staffers our students see each day….
