Red Devils earn home field advantage for regional tourney

The Red Devils will enter the Region 1A baseball tournament with a 13-6 record for a home field advantage in a quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 23.

Lancaster is the third-place seed and will likely host Chincoteague in a first-round game. Several teams had games remaining this week which could alter the lower four spots. The Devils are behind first-place Rappahannock and second-place Northumberland in the standings. Essex has a lock on fourth place.

The Devils went 3-1 in the final week of the regular season, beating Essex at the wire and defeating Christchurch. Lancaster lost to Colonial Beach but also picked up a forfeit from Arcadia.

LHS was scheduled to play Northumberland in Claraville on Tuesday, May 14, in a Northern Neck District tournament semifinal game with the winner playing the winner of a Rappahannock-Essex game tonight, May 16, in the championship. That game would be at the higher seed.

Pierson Long hit a walk-off double to score Toni Thomas for a 5-4 win over Essex on Tuesday, May 7.

Thomas had hit a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh and Long smacked an extra-base hit to deep left field to score Thomas for the win.
