HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland supervisors will soon grapple with more tough budget decisions after hearing from community organizations during a Wednesday, May 22, budget work session on funding needs for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Northumberland Public Library asked for an additional $13,025 for a total of $273,515 to achieve 58% county funding, just shy of the state’s required goal of 60%; the Greater Reedville Association asked for $25,000 to help with the Festival Halle renovation; Rappahannock Community College sought a 3% increase of $287 totaling $9,852 to expand health care and technical programs; the Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic requested an additional $46,099 for a total of $117,194 to cover increased demand; and the Boys & Girls Club asked for $15,000 for training and to expand programs.
Previously, the YMCA asked for an additional $25,000 for a total of $75,000 to help cover the cost of a pool enclosure and Bay Aging/Bay Transit requested an additional 3% or $3,107 for a total of $106,757.
