
The Christchurch School sailing team will set sails for Charleston, S.C., June 1-2 to compete in the 2024 Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) Mallory Doublehanded National Championship hosted by the College of Charleston.
The Seahorses qualified for the championship regatta when they won the Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association (MASSA) Fleet Racing Championship in Toms River, N.J., reported communications assistant Jennifer Homer.
Last fall, the Seahorses won the Atlantic Coast Championship, the MASSA Team Racing Championship and the Silver Fleet Championship.
On May 18-19, the team took second place in the Gold Round of the National Invitational Tournament in Chicago. Schools competing in the Mallory National Championship, listed with the district they represent, included:
- South Atlantic/SAISA, Antilles School, St. Thomas, US VI; Ransom Everglades, Miami, Fla.; and St. Thomas Aquinas, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
- Pacific Coast/PCISA, Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif.; Corona del Mar, Corona del Mar, Calif.; and Point Loma, San Diego, Calif.
- South East/SEISA, Lake Travis High School, Austin, Texas.
- North West/NWISA, Olympia, Olympia, Wash.; and Roosevelt, Seattle, Wash.
- Midwest/MISSA, Lake Forest, Lake Forest, Ill.; The Latin School, Chicago, Ill.; Jones College Prep, Chicago, Ill.; and New Trier High School, Winnetka, Ill.
- New England/NESSA, St. George’s, Middletown, R.I.; The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn.; and Brunswick School, Greenwich, Conn.
- Mid-Atlantic/MASSA, Christchurch; Severn School, Severna Park, Md.; Southern Regional, Manahawkin, N.J.; and Christian Brothers Academy, Middletown, N.J.
