Christmas Eve vehicle crash results in a fatality

WARSAW—At 2:22 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, the Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a two-vehicle crash with a confirmed fatality on Richmond Road, .2 miles west of Coates Lane.

The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander van was traveling eastbound on Richmond Road when it side swiped a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze traveling westbound, reported VSP Division One public information officer Sgt. Keeli L. Hill. The van then lost control skidding towards the right, overturning several times and then striking the embankment.

The occupants of the van included a 16-year-old female passenger of Dunnsville, who was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. Two teenage males also in the van were not wearing their seat belts and were airlifted to VCU Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze did not sustain injuries.

Speed is being considered one of the factors resulting in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the VSP Crash Reconstruction Team.
