HEATHSVILLE—Bruce Samuelson of the Festival Halle committee on Thursday, December 14, presented Northumberland supervisors an update on the former Reedville High School, donated to the Greater Reedville Association in 2009.
The building needed to be closed in 2022 due to the structural condition of the floor, said Samuelson. The hope is that it could again be a place of community education and gathering.
The cost of repairs to the floor, upgrades to the kitchen, landscaping and interior updates would be approximately $750,000, with $250,000 coming from the Cooke Family, owners of Omega Protein, he said. That gift comes with a matching grant requirement.
“We’ve raised about $35,000 with small activities to date. We’ve been invited to apply for a federal grant with Southeast Crescent (Regional Commission) that would be a $350,000 construction grant and we are targeting a grant to build out the kitchen,” said Samuelson.
He asked the board for in-kind support from the county, like permitting fees, in addition to budgeting a $10,000 donation….
