KING GEORGE—Gwendolyn Leonia “Albertina” Chandler of King George died Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
She was born November 30, 1956, to the late Major W. Holmes and Juanita A. Holmes.
Gwen was educated at Ralph Bunche and King George County Public Schools. Upon graduation from high school, she married James Chandler and moved to Augusta, Ga., where she lived for 20 years.
Returning to King George, she worked as a custodian for King George County Schools for more than 15 years. She also kept Salem Baptist Church spotless for Sunday services and events.
A member of Salem Baptist, she also served as a member of the Deaconess Board, Judah Gathering, Ever-ready Choraleers and Mass Choir.
She is survived by her daughter, Vadine “NeNe” Chandler of Augusta; her mother; brothers, Virgil Holmes and Vincent Holmes; sisters, Harnetta “Hollywood” Smith, Alicia Peyton and Vadine Smith, all of King George.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 13, at Salem Baptist Church.
