Healthy Harvest Food Bank calls for help as food insecurity grows

The Guernsey Tingle design will feature a 9,300-square-foot warehouse including 1,900 square feet of cold storage and a 3,000-square-foot office space with an educational center while preserving the concept of simply people helping people.

WARSAW—Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Economic Research Service released its report on Household Food Insecurity in the United States in 2022. 

According to their latest research, one in seven people in the U.S., including one in five children, lives in a food insecure household. The number of people living in food insecure households in the U.S. in 2022 increased to 44 million, including 13 million children. This is an increase of 31% for all individuals and 44% for children from the previous year, the highest rate and number of individuals and children since 2014 and the largest one-year increase in food insecurity since 2008.

“The USDA report confirms what we have been experiencing right here at home across the Northern Neck and upper Middle Peninsula,” said Cindy Balderson, vice president and development director of Healthy Harvest Food Bank. “It’s heartbreaking to see longer lines at food pantries across our six-county service area….
