Iberis property owner charged with causing public nuisances

LANCASTER—The ongoing Iberis neighborhood drama involving Janice Baylor’s wayward pigs took another turn when a special grand jury on Friday, February 24, indicted Baylor on four counts of causing a public nuisance.

According to the charging documents, the grand jury found that Baylor was keeping over 100 pigs and failing to contain them properly. “Many of them are roaming at large damaging property and the environment.”

A second charge was specifically related to environmental damage, stating the roaming pigs were destroying natural vegetation and “allowing contaminated runoff into the coastal waterways.” Baylor’s property is on Bells Creek, which flows into the Eastern Branch of the Corrotoman River.
