The town council voted 5-1 to raise utility rates for water and wastewater services in town during its monthly meeting Monday, February 25.
The combined base rate of residential water and wastewater utility services in Kilmarnock was increased by $5 per billing cycle for residential customers, from $75 every two months to $80, and by $7 per billing cycle for out-of-town residents, from $112.50 to $119.50.
Utility rates for commercial customers in town will increase by $10, from a minimum bill of $150 every two months to $160.
Council also raised the amount of water that customers pay the base utility rate on from 5,000 to 6,000 gallons. For every thousand gallons that customers use above the base rate, the cost of water and wastewater services also was increased by 6%. The new rates will go into effect July 1.
