Lancaster planning commission OKs solar ordinance changes

LANCASTER—Home and farm owners in Lancaster County could have an opportunity to develop solar arrays on their land after members of the planning commission on September 17 unanimously, 6-0, recommended an amendment to the county’s proposed solar farm ordinance.

Commission members Tara Booth, Thomas Brent, Glendon Pinn, Steven Sorensen, Thomas Richardson and David Chupp voted in favor of the amendment. Member Robert Smart was absent from the meeting.

“Lancaster currently only has one zoning district in which solar farms would be allowed, which is our M-1, Industrial Zoning District. Our board of supervisors approved a small solar farm, two megawatts on 15 acres, in the M-1 district in December 2018,” said county administrator Don Gill.
