Saying farewell to a The Horsley Real Estate team bid farewell to their beloved and historic office building at 608 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. The office originally opened in the late 1980s in a house dating from at least the early 1900s. Plumbing was later added to the building with the bathtub dating back to 1928. It’s believed to have been one of the oldest buildings in the town and has served as a landmark for over a century. A new office is expected to be constructed by next winter. Making room for a new office Over the years, preservation efforts persisted as issues with wear and tear, termites and plumbing became more and more prevalent. Repairs alone on top of the expansion of the building would have been incredibly costly, principle broker Katie Dew said. While the building had to go, the history and charm of the building will be kept alive as several fixtures were offered to community members prior to its demolition. Beginning in May 2023, the public was encouraged by the Horsley and Dew families to visit the office and collect various fixtures for free. The banister, doors and cabinet hardware were among items salvaged by community members. Photo by Katie Dew
