NAMI Virginia can help folks address mental health issues

Society is experiencing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on many levels. Anxiety, stress, depression and panic attacks are just a few effects people may experience.

On March 15, in the article, “Psychiatrists Beware! The Impact of COVID-19 and Pandemics on Mental Health,” Nidal Moukaddam, MD, PhD and Asim Shah, MD, wrote, “Individuals with mental illness may be particularly vulnerable to the effects of widespread panic and threat.”

National Alliance on Mental Illness of Virginia (NAMI Virginia) agrees, according to development and special events coordinator Mary Ryann Clary. Individuals with mental illness, and their families, are vulnerable and at increased risk of mental health challenges due to the impact of COVID-19.
