LANCASTER—The Lancaster County Board of Supervisors got an earful last Thursday. During the public input session at the August 27 meeting, residents of a Merry Point neighborhood on Estates Road shared their objections to last month’s vote by the board to grant an exception to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act (CBPA) as requested by Wayne and Susan Rogers.
The Rogers home currently stands approximately 30 feet within the CBPA required 100-foot resource protection area (RPA) buffer along the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River, having been moved by a previous owner back in 1998. Last month they were granted an exception that will allow them to build a 10-foot porch on the home, further encroaching into the buffer. The board narrowly approved the measure, 3-2, at the July meeting. Supervisor Ernest Palin of District 2, where the property is located, was joined by District 3 supervisor Jason Bellows and District 5 supervisor Robert Westbrook in support of the exception. District 1 supervisor Jack Larson and District 4 supervisor Bill Lee were opposed.
