KILMARNOCK—The first Monday of the new year, January 3, brought power outages, vehicle accidents and school and business closures throughout Lancaster and Northumberland counties after roughly 3.5 inches of snow accumulated throughout the area, according to the National Weather Service.
Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie said the area was spared major damages and overall tumultuous weather compared to other sections of Virginia.
“I think we dodged a bullet compared to other localities. I’m thankful we haven’t had the amount of snow accumulation other places like Fredericksburg, Charlottesville and Louisa have had,” Sheriff McCranie said.
About 300 people throughout the county lost power. Sheriff McCranie said most of those who experienced outages were down Windmill Point Road in White Stone and throughout Kilmarnock. Most of these residences have had their power restored….
