HEATHSVILLE—Although county administrator Luttrell Tadlock presented roughly $2 million in suggested cuts to the proposed $53.4 million budget, Northumberland supervisors made no reductions during a June 15 work session.
However, they opted to keep a 66% pay increase for supervisors, 3-2.
Two additional work sessions were scheduled, at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, and 5 p.m. Thursday, June 22. The budget and tax rates must be approved by June 30.
Among the $2,087,627 in suggested cuts were $464,502 in general administration, including $10,000 for the supervisor salary increase; $75,000 in professional services related to studies and engineering; $15,380 in repairs and equipment; and $28,600 in maintenance service software.
According to Tadlock, an additional $118,772 reduction in salary increases could be made since the General Assembly only approved a 5% increase for state compensation board employees versus the 7% originally proposed.
