Northumberland supervisors approve $42 million budget

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors on Tuesday, May 21, voted 4-1 to approve a $42,096,200 budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year, effective July 1.

The budget, which represents an increase of $1.68 million over last year, includes a 3% raise in salaries for employees of the county.

To fund the budget will require real estate taxes in the county be raised by three cents, to 59 cents per $100 of assessed value.

Anticipated revenue totals $42,096,200, including a fund balance of $7,200,000, state and federal aid of $11,298,693, local taxes of $20,460,768, and other local sources totaling $3,136,739.

Estimated expenditures total $42,096,200, including $7,204,300 for the fund balance, $1,951,643 for general government administration, $912,304 for judicial administration, $5,004,336 for public safety, $1,682,538 for public works, $2,583,420 for health and welfare, $18,879,569 for education, $207,600 for parks, recreation and culture, $1,122,738 for community development, and $2,547,753 for nondepartmental costs.
