Northumberland supervisors consider budget cuts; discuss level funding for school system

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland board of supervisors on May 21 considered over $1 million in cuts to the county’s proposed 2020-21 budget.

Northumberland’s current proposed budget totals $43,873,687. The possible cuts to the proposed budget discussed by the board total $1,536,137 and include level funding for the school district.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic began to impact school districts across the Commonwealth, the Northumberland school board approved a proposed budget of $19,127,630. It included a raise in employee salaries of 3% and represented a total cost to the county of $12,684,204, an increase of $384,470 compared to the current fiscal year.
