Ray Funkhouser of White Stone earned the title of National Champion at the USA Track & Field National 5km Race Walk Championship on September 24.
The championship race was contested at a 1250 meter course at Harry Wright Lake Park in Whiting, N.J. This event featured the Open Championship and concurrent Masters Championship Races. Funkhouser walked away with the 70-74 age group gold medal.
The race also featured Tropical Storm Ophelia which was passing through the area at the same time as the championship.
