Lancaster moved a step closer to returning to the Class 1 state baseball tournament last week by beating visiting Chincoteague, 4-1, in a Region 1A quarterfinal game.
Creston Saunders had a hand in all of Lancaster’s scoring, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a two-run homer.
The win advanced Lancaster to a semifinal game at Northumberland on Tuesday, May 28. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Rappahannock versus Essex semifinal in the regional championship tonight, May 30, at the higher seed. The two semifinal winners also secure a berth in next week’s Class 1 state tournament.
The regional winner will host, while the runner-up will travel…
