Step into the new year with a First Day Hike

Start off the new year with an outdoor adventure at any of the Virginia State Park locations.

First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many people and it is the perfect opportunity to get some exercise, explore outdoors and connect with nature all while enjoying the park’s unique beauty this season.

Parking is free at all Virginia State Park locations on January 1, and visitors to each park will receive a celebratory First Day Hike sticker while supplies last.

Enjoy a solo adventure or ranger-led hikes and activities.

Ranger-led hikes at nearby parks will include:

• Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster; 9-11 a.m., Campground Spur Trail hike to White Oak Swamp, followed by a campfire; 2-3 p.m., Hike from the Car Top Launch along Mulberry Creek Boardwalk and part of the Mud Creek Trail.

• Machicomoco State Park, 3601 Timberneck Farm Road, Hayes; 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m., Interpretive Area hike beginning at the oyster midden.

Check out the full list of First Day Hikes at www.virginiastateparks.gov/firstdayhikes.
