KILMARNOCK—Strong easterly winds and two different low-pressure systems resulted in historic flooding in parts of Virginia’s east coast last Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Meteorologist in Charge Jeff Orrock said the storm “was one of the worst tidal flood events in the past 10 years or more for most locations in the middle and upper Chesapeake Bay.
“This was a complex flood event resulting from two different storms and one of our top tidal flood events to not be associated with a hurricane or nor’easter,” he said.
Two areas of the Northern Neck setting new “top five” records included the Lewisetta area in Northumberland County and Windmill Point….
