WHITE STONE––On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Mary Stuart Pocklington passed away unexpectedly at age 80.
She was the daughter of the late Mary Ann and Stuart Duffer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Mike Pocklington; and her son, Jamie Stuart Pocklington.
Stuart is survived by her son Christopher Temple Pocklington; sister, Cameron Emory; daughter-in-law, Amy Michelle Pocklington; and her grandchildren, Darcy Grace and Willa Jane Pocklington.
Born in Richmond, Stuart lived, worked and raised her family there. She retired to White Stone, where she resurrected and beautifully restored a stray farmhouse on the banks of the Rappahannock River. She spent her days kayaking, gardening, bird watching and lovingly hosting friends and family; a favorite being her granddaughters whom she taught to love and revere nature and the river as much as she did.
Stuart was an empathetic soul, always looking for the best in others. She was as wise and talented as she was elegant and beautiful. She loved making art, a good thunderstorm, animals of all kinds, taking care of the young ones and a well-made bloody mary. Stuart will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her.
In true Stuart fashion, she did not want a service or memorial. Let’s raise a glass to her instead; and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Garfield’s Rescue Inc., www.garfieldsrescue.org, a cat rescue organization where she volunteered her time.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
