I recently met two young ladies who work together in the commercial fishing industry to learn about their jobs, life and future plans. They are pretty, petite and industrious girls who are just coming of age. They are sisters. Jessica, the oldest, is the reigning Holly Ball Queen. Sarah, the younger of the two, is graduating from Northumberland High School this year. She is also a photographer who publishes her own pictorial calendar.
Both sisters are Beta Club members due to their good grades in school. They hail from a long line of local watermen. Jessica and Sarah are the fourth generation to engage in work upon the waterways of the Northern Neck.
As the Holly Ball Queen, Jessica selected Smith Point Sea Rescue as the organization she wanted to raise funds for from the community. She believes the organization is an important asset to everyone on the water and says, “someday, I might need them.” Jessica is currently enrolled in Rappahannock Community College (RCC) pursuing a degree in business management…
