IRVINGTON—The Irvington Planning Commission on Tuesday, January 2, began the process of curating policies and regulations regarding accessory dwelling units (ADU).
Commission members Albert Pollard Jr. and Ruth Fuller spearheaded the conversation with research conducted prior to the meeting.
Pollard said the goal of regulating ADUs in town is to “locally promote and support the nationwide trend of multi-generational living by allowing ADUs via Irvington Town Ordinance.”
ADUs are defined as independent dwelling units on single-family dwelling lots with their own living, bathroom and kitchen space, he said.
Pollard said the commission would need to decide if a limitation on the total size of the ADU should be defined as a single number or on a sliding scale dependent upon the size of the lot.
Fuller noted she is in favor of a sliding scale approach. Pollard indicated a definitive number like 500-600 square feet maximum was ideal….
