Lancaster schools launch mentoring program

KILMARNOCK—Lancaster County Public Schools recently launched a student mentoring program to help students effectively meet the challenges they face in their education as well as in their everyday lives.

Volunteer mentors from the community will offer their experience and advice to participating students and will work with them to address underlying issues that can result in chronic absences from school, excessive in-school referrals, or other issues that may adversely impact their study habits or learning environment.

The program was launched in December 2019 with financial assistance from a River Counties Community Foundation donor-advised grant, sponsored by the Hug Family Fund. The Hug grant provides a 50-50 funding match with school funds…
