As of December 5, 2023, White Stone United Methodist Church became White Stone Methodist Church (WSMC).
On August 9, the 204-year-old Methodist church took a significant step by voting to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church (UMC), reported the WSMC Church Council.
This decision was reached after the congregation engaged in a thorough process of prayerful reflection and contemplation, said Roby Hackney, chairman of the trustees. In the end, individuals within the congregation, who held a range of perspectives, found common ground in the shared belief that the church can fulfill God’s work more effectively by concentrating on local efforts as an independent Methodist church, rather than maintaining ties with the larger global UMC.
