MOLLUSK—On Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 1:57 p.m., God called Mable Catherine Thomas Doggett home to be with those loved ones that traveled before her.
Mable was born July 3, 1939, to the late John Robert Thomas and the late Lula Jackson Thomas.
She attended New Mollusk School in Mollusk and A. T. Wright High School in White Stone.
She joined Queen Esther Baptist Church at an early age, where she once served as superintendent of Sunday school, first president of the Women’s Ministry, usher, choir member and church treasurer for over 20 years. She was a major fundraiser for QEBC Revivals, Women’s Day, Harvest Home Rally and other church functions. This included organizing and hosting the only Spring Revival QEBC ever had.
Mable was also well known for her homemade yeast rolls, jelly, soup and her pickles. She briefly held the position of Church Mother but has been Mother to all for years. She was, after all, ”The Mayor of Mollusk.”
Mable was once married to Morris Clifton Doggett and their union was blessed with two children, Sharon and Marvin.
As Mable would say, she pulled 20 years at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department as a cook. By the time the inmates were released they could not fit in their clothes from eating her yeast rolls. Again, Mother to many.
She was predeceased by parents John Robert Thomas and Lula J. Thomas; and brothers, James and Levi Thomas.
Mable leaves to mourn her children, Sharon Doggett and Marvin Doggett (Annette); three grandchildren, Tyanthia Doggett Carter (Howard), Marvin ”Chris” Doggett V and Tiffany Williams; five great-grandchildren, Mark ”Jae” Redmond, Kearsten Redmond, Christian Doggett, Andrew Carter and Nathaniel Carter; and one great-great-grandson, J’Marcus Redmond; a brother-in-law, Charles Doggett (Rosa); two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Doggett and Bessie Thomas; five nieces, Phyllis Thomas, Jennifer Doggett, Karen Tatum, Colette Doggett and Morticia McCoy; three nephews, Clintwood Doggett (Chanta), Douglas Doggett (Elaine) and Terrance Veney; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and too many special friends to mention.
